"Gold Coast" Chicago Rebuild

This special brownstone on State Street in Chicago was a complete renovation including reworking the floor plan to separate the garden apartment on the lower level, adding an elevator to access all four floors, two new kitchens and five bathrooms.

In addition, there are four ensuites, two private offices and living-dining areas. As an historical structure, we had to work within very strict guidelines from the state of Illinois. During construction, we found multiple 10’ pocket doors that had been dry-walled up years ago as well as a staircase that could have fallen down at any moment. This project was in the works for over a year and a half, but turned out to be a jewel in the neighborhood. The homeowners worked closely with us and the architect to create their perfect sanctuary in the city. As the clients are lovers of antiques and quirky vintage, we were able to incorporate many of these items into the design including an old sink found in the basement which was refinished and used in a guest bath, vintage lighting throughout and a mix of unique furnishings. We had custom cabinets made for the master bath and the kitchen to incorporate along with new cabinetry in order to add a look of vintage china cabinets. When these home owners had to sell this beautiful rebuild, the house sold in one day as a result of the photos in Crain’s Magazine.
